Bridge Program Activities

Bridge Program Benefits

  • Earn a research-intensive Master's Degree in Biology or Chemistry pertaining to areas of Biomedical Sciences
  • Research mentorship at EKU and UK
  • Preparation and transition to a Ph.D. program in the Biomedical sciences
  • Develop connections with faculty and students at UK's Integrated Biomedical Sciences (IBS) Ph.D. program
  • Enroll in a Graduate Course and gain other academic/professional experiences at UK
  • Seminar series/workshops for specific information/skills needed for the biomedical field
  •  A yearly salary/stipend of $11,200 as a full time graduate assistantship (20 hours per week) during the academic year and $5,500 in the summer (37.5 hours per week, 12 weeks)
  • Tuition and fee waiver for two years, for up to 9 hours per semester (Fall/Spring)
  • Travel funds to present at national science conferences
  • Gain undergraduate laboratory teaching experience

Bridge Program Requirements

  • You must be enrolled full-time as a graduate student, 9 hours (Fall/Spring), and take all specified courses according to the Bridge program curriculum
  • You must maintain a semester and cumulative GPA of 3.25
  • You must teach at least one lab section during your time as a Bridge scholar
  • You must work with an approved Bridge scholars program mentor on a research project at EKU in the first summer and an EKU/UK-IBS collaborative project or an UK-IBS research project in the second summer
  • You must attend Bridge scholar meetings
  • You must present in at least one local, state, or national conference
  • You must provide leadership and peer-mentoring to future Bridge program scholars
